Melbourne: In a major shift in its immigration policy, Australia has decided to cancel 20,000 visa applications from foreign nationals. They included the Indians, who have been subjected to continuous attacks in Australia.

The new immigration policy will be unveiled on Monday. The Australian government will come up with a new list to define occupations in demand in the country. Going forward, the applicants will get points on the basis of professional qualifications they possess.

According to reports in Australian media, the new immigration policy may favour skilled workers such as Doctors, Nurses, Engineers and Teachers. Refunding 20,000 visa applications will cost taxpayers about $14 million, said 'The Age'.
