India pledges $5 million for the Earthquake Victims in Chile PDF Print E-mail

New Delhi: Breaking News! Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh condoled the loss of lives in the devastating earthquake that hit Chile last week and pledged $5 million support from India for the relief and rehabilitation work in that country.

 

In a letter written to Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, Dr. Singh said that India is and will be with Chile during this difficult time.

 

"On behalf of the government and people of India, I would like to express deep sympathy and condolences to the people of Chile on this great tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of the bereaved families", said the Prime Minister.

 

Meanwhile, the death toll in the earthquake in Chile has gone up to 799. The coastal region of Maule reported 587 deaths.
