New Delhi: Breaking News! The Delhi High Court passed a landmark judgement, granting permanent commission to women officers in the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Army. The ruling made sure that both and men and women will have the same terms of employment.

Till date, women used retire from the service after 14 years. They were also not eligible for pension and other financial benefits, while the men were eligible for full tenure after five years in service.

In September 2008, the government revised the rules to give women the same tenure as men. However, it applied only to the new recruits. The Delhi HC judgement came as a major victory for women in IAF and Army.

The jugement of the Delhi HIgh Court is indeed a land mark judgement. One hopes the govenment shows the courage and strength to implement the rulings as the defence force in this country have thus far had a secretive and non transparent sys of implementing their policies and theories, with little interference from the govt. Unfortunately, due to several corruption charges coming to light, thanks to the media, and subsequent discriminatory and biased handling of these cases, the army has opened itself to criticism.
In the above case, the services could themselves have introspected and brought in policy to resettle, retire or provide permanent service to the lady officers since after all they have gainfully utilised their services for 14 years.
Not doing so and further commenting, negatively on a situation widely recognised as unfair by society is not helping their cause any.

Learn some thing from these land mark decisions. It is one step towards equality. A land mark jugement for defence serving women.
