Washington (Agencies): Breaking News! According to a latest research, the Indian bitter gourd (bitter melon), most popularly known as 'karela' may help in curing breast cancer. An extract from bitter gourd, may kill breast cancer cells, says the study. Â The research was conducted by Ratna Ray, PhD., professor in the department of pathology at Saint Louis University and her team. Prof. Ratna said she was surprised that the extract from the bitter melon she cooks in stir fries, inhibits the growth of breast cancer cells. Â "Our result was encouraging. We have shown that bitter melon extract significantly induced death in breast cancer cells and decreased their growth and spread", she said. Â Prof. Ray concluded that bitter melon extract may not do any miracle in curing breast cancer. "Bitter melon is common and China and India and most people consume that there. But women in those countries still get breast cancer", she said. |
