Pune: Breaking News! At least 60 students of the Dr Zakir Hussain School at Bopodi near Pune were hospitalized after taking mid-day meal and their health condition was serious with symptoms of food poisoning.
Most of the students were aged between 8-10 years and suddenly fell ill on Friday after having 'Khichdi' in afternoon as mid-day meal in a municipal school, police said.
According to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) school board chairman Sangeeta Tiwari, the sign of dead insects and even small pieces of magnets were found in the food 'khichadi' and its was smelling bad. However, she is shocked over the quality of the food and the way of preparation.
In fact, the mid-day meal is included in government educational policy and is offered freely to the students belonging to poor families. And the food is being prepared by a self-help group (SHG) in PMC-run schools.
