NewRoom: This is not the movie you were looking for this weekend. The name "Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai" promises a lot, but delivers little in the end. Ajay Devgan and Kangana Ranaut tried to justify their roles, but they became the victim of a loose plot.
The movie lacks the punch and solid presentation. The movie talks about violence, gang war, love, r omance and battle for supremacy. While Ajay Devgun somehow represents Haji Mastan, Emraan Hashmi donned the role or a jealous "Dawood Ibrahim".A lot of drama, action and emotion were expected from "Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai". But unfortunately, they are missing here. "Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai" is said to be inspired by Haji Mastan, gangster and smuggler, who was mostly active in the 1960s and 70s. Mastan also produced Bollywood films. He later became a Muslim leader and formed Dalit Muslim Surakhsha Maha Sangh in 1985. He died in Mumbai in 1994. Although the court directed the producers of "Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai" to mention that the film was not based on Haji Mastan's life, people still linked it to Mastan. Director Milan Luthria should not be blamed if the movie fails at the Box Office. He was probably not given what he expected to make it a solid film. If you want to watch Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai", do it only for Ajay Devgun, who is at his best yet again. BNO Ratings: **1/2 |
